Poker Basics

Small Blind

The smaller of the two forced bets posted before each hand. The small blind is posted by the player immediately to the left of the dealer button and is typically half the size of the big blind. Playing from the small blind is considered one of the most disadvantageous positions since you act second-to-last preflop but first in all subsequent betting rounds.

Example

You are in the small blind and post $0.50 at a $0.50/$1.00 table. After everyone folds to you, you raise to $3, putting pressure on the big blind.
