Staking (Crypto)
In the crypto context, staking means locking up cryptocurrency to support blockchain operations and earn rewards. For poker players, staking has a dual meaning: it can refer to crypto staking for passive income, or the traditional poker meaning where a backer provides a player's buy-in in exchange for a share of profits.
Example
A friend stakes you $2,000 to play a tournament in exchange for 50% of your profits. You win $10,000 — your friend receives $4,000 (the $2,000 back plus 50% of the $4,000 profit after deducting the initial stake). Actually: $2,000 stake returned plus 50% of the $8,000 profit = $6,000 total.
