Satellite

A qualifying tournament where the prize is a seat (entry ticket) into a larger, more expensive tournament rather than cash. Satellites allow players to enter high buy-in events at a fraction of the cost. For example, a $10 satellite might award a $200 tournament entry. Satellite strategy differs from regular tournaments, as the goal is to survive rather than accumulate chips.

Example

You enter a $5 satellite that awards five seats to a $50 tournament. You finish in the top five and win your $50 entry — turning a small investment into a shot at a bigger prize pool.
