Value Bet
A bet made with a hand you believe is ahead of your opponent's calling range, designed to extract maximum value. The key to value betting is sizing your bet to get called by as many worse hands as possible while maximizing the total chips won. Thin value bets on the river separate good players from great ones.
Example
On the river, you have top pair and believe your opponent has second pair. You bet 60% pot — small enough that they will call with worse hands, extracting maximum value.
