Strategy

Over-Bet

A bet that exceeds the current pot size. Over-bets are a polarizing play used in advanced strategy, typically representing either a very strong hand or a bluff. Over-betting is effective because it offers opponents poor pot odds and maximizes fold equity. GTO solvers frequently recommend over-bet sizings in specific situations.

Example

The pot is $100 on the river and you shove for $250 with the nut flush. The over-bet polarizes your range and puts maximum pressure on your opponent's bluff-catchers.
