Raise
To increase the current bet amount, forcing other players to match the new amount or fold. Raising is an aggressive action that can build the pot with strong hands, force opponents to fold weak hands, or gain information about opponents' hand strength. A standard raise is typically 2.5x to 3x the big blind preflop.
Example
A player opens for $6 at a $1/$2 table. You look down at Q♠Q♥ and raise to $18, wanting to isolate the opener and build a pot with your strong hand.
